Shipyard Staffing LLC is seeking a highly skilled Rigging Specialist to join our team at Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, VA.

As a Rigging Specialist, you will play a vital role in the safe and efficient movement of heavy equipment and materials within the shipyard environment. Your expertise in rigging techniques and safety protocols will be essential to ensuring smooth operations and maintaining a secure worksite.

Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of rigging practices and procedures for U.S. Naval Surface Ship and Submarine platforms.
  • Execute the installation, removal, and repositioning of machinery, structural components, heavy equipment, and other loads with precision and care.
  • Maneuver loads effectively, utilizing proper bracing, cushioning, and lifting gear techniques.
  • Accurately estimate weights and center of gravity for loads, ensuring optimal weight distribution and safe handling.
  • Select and utilize appropriate rigging equipment, including chain falls, shackles, chain hoists, synthetic slings, beam clamps, and wire rope.
  • Employ complex multipoint suspension techniques to navigate loads in confined spaces.
  • Adhere to strict safety protocols and maintain a vigilant awareness of potential hazards.
  • Provide guidance and instruction to helpers and workers on proper rigging practices.
Qualifications:
  • Possess a fully adjudicated clearance at the Secret level or higher.
  • Be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Demonstrate extensive experience in rigging operations within a shipyard or similar industrial setting.
  • Exhibit exceptional problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Maintain excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
