Job Summary

This position works in the Design and Construction Management Division of the Street Transportation Department, leading a team of field staff engaged in technical inspections, overseeing the construction of the City's Capital Improvement Projects.

The Construction Inspections Supervisor will administer and oversee the planning, coordinating, testing, and inspection of construction activities, coordinating temporary traffic control, maintenance, and construction-related activities in the city right-of-way.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the construction and administer contracts for Capital Improvement Projects, review traffic control plans, design plans, and specifications.
  • Manage and supervise administrative functions, maintaining good working relationships with internal and external partners, contractors, utility companies, and others working or holding activities in the right-of-way.
  • Resolve construction conflict problems, recommend desirable changes or solutions, and review project pay estimates, final balance sheets, plan efficiencies, status reports, and press releases prepared by inspectors.
Requirements
  • Six years of experience in field inspection engineering work, including two years of technical and skilled public works construction inspection experience.
  • Ability to analyze information, make decisions, and work collaboratively with managers, peers, staff, and utility companies.
  • Highly proficient in reading and interpreting construction plans and specifications, proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite, and knowledge of construction field safety practices, principles, and practices of civil construction, MUTCD, and City of Phoenix Traffic Barricade Manual.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Supervision experience or out-of-class time as a supervisor, municipal construction inspection experience, experience with administrating operating budgets, and experience with the inspection of temporary traffic control.
  • Experience working with public, council, and management, experience with construction materials testing processes and standards, and experience with contract management for contractors and design consultants.
