Our schools reflect the diversity of our student body, with over 60% of our educators and staff identifying as people of color.

Uncommon operates 53 schools, serving more than 20,000 students across five cities: Boston, Camden, New York City, Newark, and Rochester.

We take pride in the fact that our graduates persist in and complete college at five times the national average.

This success is achieved through a robust academic program, co-curricular activities, and social-emotional learning that equips students for success in college and beyond.

Rochester Prep manages six schools catering to students from kindergarten through 12th grade.

We believe in fostering authentic relationships between educators and students, supported by effective school systems and an engaging instructional model that allows students to thrive both academically and personally.

Rochester Prep schools consistently rank among the top performers in the city, boasting an impressive 85% college acceptance rate.

Position Overview
Uncommon High School Science Educators collaborate across the network to equip all students with the tools and knowledge necessary to engage critically in the field of science, nurturing them into self-directed learners.

At the core of all Science courses is inquiry-based learning, emphasizing student discourse and scientific practices.

Science educators utilize a variety of instructional methods to ignite a passion for scientific inquiry and analysis among their students.

Our educators prepare all students to have the option to pursue and excel in any STEM field.

We aim to cultivate citizen scientists who possess the skills and knowledge to engage critically in science, regardless of their future academic or professional paths.

Our educators become proficient in their subject matter and possess a strong ability to motivate and inspire high school students.

Key Responsibilities
1. Instruction
You'll deliver a curriculum that encompasses, but is not limited to, the analysis of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Environmental Sciences, preparing students for Advanced Placement (AP) and collegiate-level coursework. You'll enhance students' skills in questioning, modeling, constructing explanations, data analysis, argumentation, and conducting interactive labs.
You'll foster an environment where students feel empowered to engage in scientific discourse.
You will facilitate student-led discussions, encouraging students to use evidence to formulate sophisticated claims and synthesize and critique arguments. You'll guide student-led inquiries into various scientific topics and involve students in lab and project-based performance tasks. You'll collaborate with the Science department to establish academic and engagement objectives for students.
2. Data Analysis
You'll meet weekly with your principal and/or instructional coach to analyze and respond to trends in student work samples and assessments.
You'll learn and implement strategies to differentiate instruction for all learners in your classroom.
3. School Culture
You'll cultivate positive relationships with students to ensure they feel acknowledged, valued, and heard.
You'll collaborate with students' families to ensure the necessary resources are available to support their child's learning needs.
You'll engage in practice-based professional development, mentorship, and coaching sessions.
You'll participate in weekly, school-wide meetings to foster community, model our core values, and promote student achievement.
You'll work with your grade-level team to set academic goals and refine instructional strategies.

An enthusiasm for collaborating with internal and external partners in the best interest of students.

Academic expertise in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or related fields of study.
Prior to employment, candidates must possess a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
