Position Overview

The State of Vermont's Buildings and General Services (BGS) is seeking a dedicated Landscape Operations Supervisor within the Operations and Maintenance division.

In this role, you will be an integral part of a team while also working independently. This position focuses on maintaining the grounds of various state properties, including significant historical sites. The Supervisor will primarily oversee outdoor maintenance tasks. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: mowing, landscaping, tree care, snow removal, and salting. Additionally, the Supervisor may be required to assist with various maintenance tasks such as electrical work, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and lock repairs.

This is a full-time position that necessitates a valid driver's license and successful completion of a background check. Standard working hours are from 6 AM to 2:30 PM.

The Department of Buildings and General Services (BGS) employs over 340 individuals who provide essential facilities services to state agencies and departments. As a member of the Operations and Maintenance Division, you will play a vital role in supporting the mission of BGS.

Eligibility

This position is open to all state employees and external applicants.

Work Environment

Work will be conducted at state buildings and grounds, with anticipated interactions with the public. Incumbents may face challenging situations and must maintain professionalism. Physical requirements include the ability to operate tree maintenance equipment and tools, lift weights up to 75 pounds, and work in various conditions, including heights exceeding 60 feet. Responsibilities may involve using chainsaws, aerial lifts, cranes, stump grinders, tractors, and bucket loaders. Emergency response outside regular hours may be necessary.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess a minimum of three (3) years of experience in arborist/tree care work, two (2) years in facility maintenance and building repair work (including landscaping or grounds maintenance), and at least two (2) years in a supervisory or lead worker capacity.

Certifications

Required certifications include training in horticulture, tree work or arborist practices, small engine repair, chainsaw safety, and OSHA 10. Alternatively, certification with the Society of Arboriculture as an Arborist is acceptable. A valid driver's license is mandatory.
