Job Title: Laboratory Technician

Reports to: Lab Manager

Classification: Non-exempt

Status: Regular Full Time

Job Purpose:

Laboratory Technicians play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and quality of laboratory tests. They work under close supervision to perform routine tests, analyze samples, and maintain laboratory equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform analytical tests based on standards and procedures as assigned by the Laboratory Manager.
  • Assist in setting up, adjusting, and operating laboratory equipment.
  • Calibrate laboratory instruments to ensure accurate analysis.
  • Clean and sterilize laboratory equipment to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Prepare chemical solutions according to standard formulas.
  • Record test results and write test reports describing procedures used.
  • Understand and complete laboratory raw data sheets and make accurate entries into the LIMS database.
  • Ability to read and comprehend analysis and safety standards in English, including ASTM, UOP, IP, and other well-defined analytical standards and procedures.
  • Exercise procedural, safety, and quality requirements specified in the Laboratory Manual & Safety Manual and company policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or a related science preferred, or equivalent work experience; coupled with a minimum of one (2) year of direct transferable experience working in a laboratory.
  • Knowledgeable in ASTM standards.
  • Ability to work with all chemical, petrochemical, and petroleum products.
  • Accurate color differentiation by sight.
  • Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) experience preferred.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Access preferred.
  • Excellent work history with a track record of being a responsible individual.
  • Detailed oriented.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proficient in the use of laboratory equipment.
Working Conditions:

This position is performed in a laboratory environment.

  • Required to walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms; and to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or twist body to fit and/or reach.
  • The employee's lifting requirement and/or move items up to 50 pounds.
  • Be able to work in the presence of odors typical of petroleum or petrochemicals without allergic reactions or nausea, when such odors are within OSHA-designated permissible exposure limits (PELs).
  • May be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
