Job Summary:
The Physical Therapist delivers extensive rehabilitation services to patients referred by a physician or other qualified healthcare provider.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Upholds and advocates for the mission and values of Covenant Health Ministry.
  • Conducts assessments and therapeutic interventions under the guidance of a physician or other recognized healthcare provider, adhering to safety protocols and clinical guidelines.
  • Assesses patients according to departmental standards and formulates a therapeutic care plan that includes achievable long- and short-term objectives, service frequency, duration, and modalities.
  • Engages with patients and primary caregivers to gather insights for the therapeutic care plan.
  • Integrates feedback into therapy objectives.
  • Collaborates with the referring physician and other healthcare team members regarding the care plan and patient discharge requirements.

  • Evaluates treatment effectiveness and adjusts the treatment program to meet established functional goals.
  • Maintains accurate documentation in the Electronic Medical Record for all patient interactions, ensuring clarity and accessibility for the care team.
  • Advises on and facilitates the acquisition of suitable assistive devices, providing necessary usage instructions.
  • Educates patients and/or caregivers, documenting the outcomes of educational efforts.
  • Appropriately refers patients to Physical Therapist Assistants and collaborates with other therapy professionals to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Understands and adheres to reimbursement regulations including PPS and Medicare.
  • In the orthopedic practice, works with surgical patients post-joint replacement, following the standards set by the interdisciplinary team.
  • Keeps clinical skills current through participation in workshops and conferences, sharing knowledge with staff post-attendance.
  • Documents patient care in compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, Private Pay, and Worker's Compensation standards.
  • Provides educational sessions to nursing and other departments regarding clinical knowledge and skills.
  • Actively contributes to the development of new programs and services within Physical Therapy.
  • Stays informed on professional matters through organizational membership and relevant literature.
  • Participates in departmental meetings and reviews minutes from meetings not attended.
  • Supervises assistant-level staff as appropriate, ensuring compliance with state regulations and professional standards.
  • Mentors new staff during their orientation, ensuring completion of departmental checklists and competencies.
  • Acts as a Clinical Instructor for students in accordance with departmental guidelines.
  • Completes operational duties in a timely manner.
  • Ensures departmental cleanliness and compliance with infection control protocols.
  • Maintains necessary licenses, certifications, and competencies, completing annual compliance training as required.
  • Performs other duties consistent with this role.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's or Doctorate preferred.
  • Must be licensed as a Physical Therapist in the State of Maine.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is mandatory.

Working Conditions:
This position may involve exposure to blood/body fluids or tissue. Must be capable of functioning in a fast-paced environment requiring multitasking and sound decision-making skills. Physical demands include lifting/carrying up to 35 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally, along with the ability to perform tasks involving sitting, standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
