Established in 2017, the Department of Juvenile Justice Health Services was created through a collaboration between Augusta University Health System and the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice, aiming to provide high-quality health services to justice-involved youth across 25 facilities.

Department Information

Our mission in the Department of Juvenile Justice Health Services is to transform young lives through evidence-based rehabilitative treatment services, enhancing the well-being of youth and families, and fostering safe communities. Each youth will receive tailored care to improve their health literacy and wellness potential.

Responsibilities

Key duties include but are not limited to:

- Under the supervision of the Lead Nurse and clinical guidance of the Physician, deliver essential medical services utilizing professional medical expertise to address various healthcare needs, with a focus on ambulatory care.
- Assess and manage the general medical and health requirements of youth.
- Oversee Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) programs related to patient care.

Required Qualifications
  • Must be licensed as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician's Assistant in the State of Georgia.
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience; preference for 1 year in a correctional environment.
  • Strong organizational and decision-making abilities; good physical and mental health; capacity to work under pressure; must establish rapport with patients, security personnel, visitors, and colleagues.
  • Comply with the Georgia Board of Nursing Nurse Practice Act (Nurse Practitioners) and Georgia Composite Medical Board Rules (Physician Assistants).
  • Current Health Care Provider BCLS Certification required, obtained through an accredited program.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs; normal bending, reaching, and stooping; capacity to stand and sit for extended periods; must respond swiftly in emergencies.
  • Security Clearance by the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice.
