Job Title: Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Associate

The University of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Associate to join the Design Services team within Facilities Management. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for preparing construction documents, providing engineering calculations and analysis, and reviewing submittals and performing construction administration services.

Responsibilities:
  • Prepare construction documents for HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection design using Revit for most projects.
  • Provide engineering calculations and analysis of mechanical systems with oversight from senior team members.
  • Review submittals and perform construction administration services.
  • Provide project management support for mechanical and plumbing specific projects.
  • Confirm existing conditions from drawing archives and site visits.
  • Adhere to and assist in developing department standards.
  • Develop and maintain project workbook using eBuilder.
  • Participate in meetings with project managers, consulting architects and engineers, University end-users and staff, and others.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field, relevant experience in a technical field may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Some building design and construction experience is typical.
  • Proficiency in drafting mechanical or electrical systems (Revit preferred).
  • Applicants who successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam are preferred.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Use of critical thinking and the ability to communicate ideas.
  • Ability to meet preset deadlines.
  • Excellent written and oral communication.
  • Knowledge of mechanical or electrical engineering concepts and principles.
  • Proficiency in the use of technology, including design software, to perform engineering analysis and prepare construction documents.
  • Ability to communicate with stakeholders to present design options and explain selected solutions.
  • Excellent time management skills including the ability to manage individual's work across multiple concurrent project schedules.
Compensation:

The Anticipated Hiring Range for this position is $68,000 - $80,000. This is a full-time position with UVA benefits. Employee benefits package highlights include:
