COUNTER SALES ASSOCIATE

The Counter Sales and Service Specialist plays a vital role in our branch sales team, dedicated to assisting customers in locating the necessary parts and equipment through prompt, friendly, and professional service. Candidates for this role should have a strong willingness to learn about industry products and services, and the ability to engage customers effectively to understand their needs and provide reliable solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service Duties

Handles incoming calls and greets customers entering the store, managing multiple customer requests simultaneously while maintaining a professional demeanor.

Guides customers in selecting products by asking insightful questions and actively listening to identify their needs. Provides assistance with troubleshooting and answers technical inquiries. Suggests alternative products when necessary.

Utilizes various tools, including point-of-sale systems, catalogs, and industry contacts, to research and source products for customers.

Processes sales orders and manages customer returns and warranties in accordance with company policies.

Ensures timely follow-up on customer inquiries regarding information, quotes, and delivery timelines, proactively communicating any potential delays.

Builds strong relationships with customers, greeting regular clients by name.

Maintains showroom cleanliness and organization through stocking, housekeeping, and display creation.

Addresses customer complaints and disputes professionally and promptly, balancing customer satisfaction with business needs.

Adheres to company pricing and credit policies.

Sales Responsibilities

Prepares and delivers sales quotes following company protocols, following up to secure sales.

Educates customers about the diverse range of products available and the advantages of shopping at Johnstone Supply.

Enhances customer satisfaction and store profitability by recommending additional items and promotions that may interest customers.

Communicates sales leads to outside sales staff and management.

Promotes surplus and discounted inventory to maintain optimal stock levels and informs management of changes in product demand.

General Responsibilities

Stays informed about new and existing products through training and research, ensuring knowledge of industry standards.

Assists with receiving, shipping, and general warehouse tasks.

Maintains organized records and completes transactions accurately and promptly.

Qualifications and Skills

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

Education and Experience:

Required: High School Diploma or G.E.D. with a minimum of two years of relevant experience in the HVAC/R industry or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred: Two years of experience as a Sales and Service Associate in the HVAC/R or a related field.

Job-Specific Skills:

Ability to deliver consistent, professional customer service.

Capability to manage multiple tasks while prioritizing customer needs.

Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to listen, interpret, and address customer needs.

Proficient in effective sales strategies and techniques.

Ability to cultivate long-term customer relationships.

Positive and friendly demeanor.

General knowledge of HVACR products and industry concepts.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Basic math skills for calculations involving margins, discounts, and percentages.

Proficient in using point-of-sale systems and web-based tools for product research.

Ability to work collaboratively in teams and independently with minimal supervision.

Ability to follow documented procedures and instructions.
