Job Title: Director of Public Works

The City of Blue Springs is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Public Works to lead the development and implementation of the city's infrastructure projects. This is a critical role that requires a strong understanding of public works operations, infrastructure planning, and project management.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement the city's capital improvement plan, ensuring that all public infrastructure projects align with community needs and long-term strategic goals.
  • Provide strategic direction and leadership to the Public Works department, including engineering, water, sewer, wastewater, streets, and fleet management.
  • Manage a staff of 55 and oversee an annual budget of $17.9 million.
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders, including contractors, government agencies, and the public, to ensure effective project delivery and regulatory compliance.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective service delivery, including emergency management and risk mitigation strategies.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum 7-10 years of experience in civil engineering, public works management, or a related field, with at least five years in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Expertise in public works project management, regulatory compliance, and infrastructure planning.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with city officials, staff, contractors, and the public.
