About the Role

Oswego County Opportunities, Inc. is seeking a dedicated Mental Health Advocate to join our team in providing exceptional support services to individuals with severe mental illnesses.

The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with para-professional administrative activities, casework, and Medicaid billing for our Mental Health Transitional Living Apartment Treatment Program.

With a focus on service coordination and crisis intervention, this role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with day-to-day program operations, including visits to consumers in their apartments and common areas.
  • Provide guidance and advisement to consumers in daily activities, ensuring a safe and home-like atmosphere.
  • Evaluate and document consumer mental health during each visit.
  • Ensure adequate food supply and provide education on housekeeping, meal planning, and budgeting.
  • Offer emergency supportive and trauma-informed crisis counseling to consumers in distress.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Services or related field; or Associate's degree with 3 years of experience in mental health settings.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent with 5 years of experience in mental health settings.
  • Valid New York State Driver's License with good driving record and access to reliable vehicle for travel and client transportation.

Estimated salary: $45,000 - $55,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
