Project Overview
The Business Master File Modernization (BMF Mod) initiative is a significant program designed to enhance the IRS tax processing systems. This effort is crucial for achieving the IRS IT Application Development (AD) and IRS IT Enterprise Service (ES) objectives, aligning with the broader IRS IT Modernization Business Plan. The focus is on upgrading systems, improving taxpayer interactions, ensuring compliance, and minimizing dependence on legacy technologies.

Role Responsibilities:
As an Application Developer, you will contribute to the modernization of the BMF platform, engaging in daily Operations & Maintenance (O&M) tasks that align with IRS priorities. Your responsibilities will include project management, O&M activities, development work, modernization efforts, enhancements, legislative updates, and developmental O&M upgrades.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
  • Extensive knowledge of IBM z/OS assembly language, including addressing modes and data manipulation techniques.
  • Familiarity with IBM mainframe architecture, storage hierarchy, system calls, and interrupt handling.
  • Experience with CA Endevor Software Change Manager (SCM) for version control and release management.
  • Proficient in BMC Control-M for automating job scheduling and managing workflows.
  • Experience with mainframe tools, debuggers, assemblers, linkers, and utilities within the IBM z/OS environment.
  • Solid understanding of legacy mainframe data formats such as DB2, QSAM, and VSAM.
  • Knowledge of target Java code and object-oriented programming principles.
  • Active IRS MBI Clearance is highly desirable.
  • Experience with IRS Core Record Layout (CRL) and QSAM Data Formats is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with IRS Individual Master File (IMF) or Business Master File (BMF) is preferred.
