Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Bakery Cake Decorator to join our team at Whole Foods Market. As a Bakery Cake Decorator, you will be responsible for creating and decorating cakes, tarts, pastries, and special-order items that meet our high quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Decorate and Finish Cakes and Pastries: Use your artistic skills to build and finish all specialty bakery goods, ensuring that every detail is just right.
  • Meet Quality Standards: Uphold our quality standards by providing outstanding service and delicious treats to our customers.
  • Support Team Members: Provide guidance and support for Bakery Decorator Apprentices and other Team Members.
  • Merchandise and Showcase Products: Display products in the sales display case to satisfy and delight customers.
  • Provide Excellent Customer Service: Address customers' needs in a timely and effective manner, model suggestive selling techniques, and answer customer inquiries.
  • Maintain a Clean and Sanitary Environment: Maintain a clean and sanitary working and shopping environment, and ensure that equipment is in accordance with Whole Foods Market cleanliness and safety standards.
Requirements
  • Decorating Skills: Efficient cake and pastry decorating skills, including intermediate piping techniques and the ability to create decorative flowers and borders.
  • Color Theory: Understand color theory as it pertains to blending buttercream colors and coordinating complementing palettes.
  • Recipe Knowledge: Ability to follow recipes, directions, and procedures, and effective time management and organization skills.
  • Communication Skills: Strong communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to lift 50 pounds, stand/walk for 6-8 hours, and work in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience: Minimum of 6-12 months retail or restaurant experience, and completion of the Bakery Decorator Apprentice training program or equivalent experience.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to work in wet and dry conditions, and exposure to temperatures: 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
