Position Overview

ROLE SUMMARY:

The Registered Nurse delivers comprehensive nursing care to patients by utilizing the nursing process, which includes assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This role involves directing and guiding other team members while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure care is appropriate for various age groups and developmental stages, adhering to established nursing standards.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:

Must have graduated from an accredited School of Nursing. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:

Must possess a Registered Nurse license from the State of North Carolina. Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification is required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification must be obtained within one year of hire for roles in Adult Critical Care and Adult Emergency Departments. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification is also required within one year for specific pediatric areas.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Deliver patient and family-centered care by applying the nursing process, focusing on the holistic needs of patients, including physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and environmental aspects.

2. Ensure a safe and therapeutic environment by maintaining patient privacy and exhibiting professional behavior.

3. Leverage technology and equipment to enhance patient and staff safety.

4. Communicate effectively to facilitate information sharing across the continuum of care and as a collaborative member of the healthcare team.

5. Engage in professional practice by participating in shared governance, adhering to care standards, and contributing to peer reviews and professional development.

6. Maintain competency in point-of-care testing as required, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and relevant regulations.

7. Advocate for patients throughout their care journey, including in various healthcare settings and the community.

8. Coordinate the efficient delivery of patient care services by applying care management principles and identifying clinical priorities to enhance patient outcomes.

9. Actively participate in a professional practice model, promoting a healthy work environment and taking personal responsibility for professional growth.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Ability to provide both direct and indirect patient care, strong interpersonal communication skills, and the capability to work collaboratively within a team. Proficient written and verbal communication skills are essential.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Ability to manage moderate to high stress levels.
  • Occasional exposure to crowded conditions.
  • Moderate noise levels are expected.
  • Preparedness for emergency or crisis situations.
  • Subject to frequent interruptions and stressful scenarios.
  • Regular exposure to bloodborne pathogens, infections, and contagious diseases.
  • Interaction with patients, families, community members, colleagues, and medical staff in diverse circumstances.
  • Flexibility to handle last-minute staffing needs.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
