Position Summary

The Cardiothoracic Surgery program at Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute is looking for a dedicated full-time Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to enhance our expanding team. This role involves independent practice within the inpatient hospital and operating room environments, collaborating closely with a supervising physician and a multidisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Function primarily in the operating room, focusing on thoracic surgery, providing first assistance in both open and minimally invasive thoracic procedures, including robotic lung surgeries.
  • Deliver a comprehensive range of surgical and medical services, including first assisting in various cardiothoracic surgeries and demonstrating proficiency in endoscopic vein harvesting.
  • Maintain clinical and professional competence tailored to the age, developmental stages, and specific needs of the patient population served.
  • Participate in a rotating schedule that includes weekends, holidays, and on-call duties.

Essential Qualifications

  • Possess a thorough understanding of preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative procedures.
  • Demonstrate strong proficiency with electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
  • Engage in the education and training of APP students, APP Fellows, and assist in the onboarding of new APP hires as appropriate.
  • Attend and actively participate in required meetings, educational sessions, and professional development opportunities.
  • Exhibit the ability to work autonomously and efficiently, showcasing strong decision-making capabilities.
  • Possess excellent communication skills, critical thinking abilities, interpersonal skills, and the capacity to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Collaborate effectively as a team player with various medical professionals for optimal patient management and care coordination.

Position Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program, with approval to practice in North and South Carolina. Current prescriptive privileges and DEA license are mandatory. BLS and ACLS certifications for Healthcare Providers from AHA are required.
  • Nurse Practitioner: A Master's Degree or Doctorate of Nursing Practice is required, along with a valid Registered Nurse license and certification from a nationally recognized certifying body. ACNP or AGACNP certification is essential.
  • Physician Assistant: Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program is required; a Master's Degree is preferred. Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants is advantageous.

Experience Requirements

  • Prior experience in cardiothoracic or vascular surgery is essential.
  • Exhibit appropriate critical thinking and interpersonal skills in a fast-paced, high-acuity work environment, with the ability to conduct thorough history and physical assessments.
  • Possess a valid North Carolina licensure.
