Job Summary

The Tax Manager - Indirect Tax position at U.S. Venture is a key role in ensuring compliance with Federal, State, and local tax regulations. This position oversees the supervision of Tax Specialists and Senior Tax Specialists, assisting with the preparation of select tax returns and reviewing direct report tax returns. The Tax Manager must have a thorough understanding of complex transactions, reports, and activities to collect, remit, and report taxes and fees accurately and timely.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise the day-to-day activities of tax specialists, providing guidance and support as needed.
• Design, implement, and coordinate staff training for the One Tax team, ensuring they have the necessary skills to perform their duties effectively.
• Review all assigned indirect tax returns for direct reports on a timely basis to ensure timely filing and accuracy.
• Interact with internal and external indirect tax customers to resolve discrepancies outside of day-to-day operations, providing excellent customer service and support.
• Develop staff members through technical training, creating training materials as needed to enhance their skills and knowledge.
• Continuously look for ways to improve processes, increase efficiencies, and improve the quality of the team's work product, staying up-to-date with industry developments and applicable tax law changes.
• Maintain a working knowledge of all key software tools, ensuring the team has the necessary resources to perform their duties effectively.
• Research, analyze, and interpret tax laws, providing written memoranda on various projects and transactions, and maintaining accurate and complete working papers supporting all Federal and State tax positions.
• Timely resolution of correspondence and notices from tax authorities as assigned, acting as a subject matter expert for relevant tax determination and compliance systems.
• Provide guidance to One Tax in reviewing and resolving assessments and amendments related to previously submitted tax returns, stepping in when additional expertise is needed.
• Responsible for select areas of tax-related internal controls, ensuring the team follows established procedures and guidelines.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related field and 5-8 years of motor fuel tax experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. They will also have experience leading a team and conducting reviews of direct report work, with prior sales tax experience preferred. The candidate must be able to analyze and interpret financial reports and legal documents, demonstrate problem-solving skills, and have strong organizational skills and attention to detail. In-depth knowledge of Federal, State, and local motor fuel taxes, special, environmental, and other fees is also required, as well as a thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. The candidate must be able to work independently and as a team member, set priorities, and respond to changing demands from multiple sources, with excellent communication skills and strong leadership skills.
