Job Title: Counselor

Family Service League Inc. is seeking a qualified Counselor to join our team at the Family Recovery Center in Riverhead. As a Counselor, you will provide individual and group therapy to children, families, and adults impacted by substance abuse.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide the most appropriate and highest level of service to clients.
  • Manage a caseload of clients and provide case management services.
  • Complete intake assessments and conduct individual and group therapy sessions.
  • Make accurate diagnoses and confer with supervisor as needed.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans and crisis plans for clients.
  • Work with clients to develop and reach treatment goals and change goals as needed.
  • Efficiently access other necessary services for clients.
  • Complete progress notes, treatment plans, and other required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Conduct and record laboratory screenings and maintain contact with client legal mandates.
  • Facilitate groups for clients and register appropriate clients in impaired driver systems.
  • Correspond with collateral family members and agencies in a timely and professional manner.
  • Acquire knowledge of modalities relevant to client population and maintain a reasonable appointment rate.
  • Contact clients by phone and letter regarding missed appointments and obtain necessary signatures and documentation.
  • Maintain up-to-date progress notes, treatment plans, and Outpatient Treatment Reviews (OTRs).
  • Terminate cases when appropriate and using the appropriate procedures.
  • Inform office staff and ensure that clients are informed of schedule changes.
  • Adhere to OASAS regulations and meet regularly with supervisor to review cases.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • CASAC/CASAC-T or related education required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with substance use disorders required; experience with co-occurring disorders preferred.
  • Experience working with adolescent and teens may be required.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving, and verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and the ability to work closely with referral sources required.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office required; Electronic Health Records preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
