About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Meat Assistant Manager to join our team at New Seasons Market. As a key member of our Meat Department, you will be responsible for managing and overseeing the daily operations of the department, ensuring exceptional customer service, and maintaining high standards of product quality and safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with the Meat and Seafood Manager to manage and provide oversight to all areas of the department, including financial stewardship, customer service, department conditions, merchandising, food safety, and work safety.
  • Ensure consistency of department conditions, including stocking, rotating, facing, and adhering to merchandising standards and category schematics.
  • Order meat products according to anticipated sales and seasonal needs, and train staff to write orders and production schedules consistent with department goals and standards.
  • Ensure all Meat and Seafood items are cut, trimmed, and processed to company standards, and build displays and arrange department products to make attractive presentations.
  • Partner with the department manager to plan for weekly ads, events, and holidays using tools and reports, and maintain professional vendor relationships.
  • Coordinate with the Promotions department to plan and conduct in-store tastings, and ensure customer special orders are accurately placed and delivered.
  • Receive and unload merchandise, check quality, count, and condition, and communicate any issues to management and merchandising team.
  • Stock and rotate products with attention to product quality and expiration dates, and maintain the organization, rotation, and cleanliness of back stock areas.
  • Wrap, weigh, and price Meat and Seafood products according to department policy, and assist customers with product selection, sharing product knowledge and making recommendations and suggestions based on customer needs.
  • Ensure department compliance with company organic standards, and partner with the department manager to plan, lead, and analyze the monthly perishable inventory.
Requirements
  • Previous customer service, food service, retail, or grocery experience required.
  • Knowledge of retail Meat and Seafood departments preferred, but butcher shop or meat fabrication industry experience acceptable.
  • Prior meat cutting/fabrication experience highly preferred.
  • Previous supervisory or management experience required.
  • Entry to mid-level proficiency with MS Office, and working knowledge with POS, inventory, or other retail-specific software preferred.
  • Skills to manage financial results, including labor, sales, and profit margin.
Physical and Environmental Work Space

The work occurs in a grocery store environment, which includes surfaces that can be wet and slippery, moderate noise level, and temperature extremes in controlled environments in the cooler and freezer. There may be exposure to certain allergens and/or chemicals.
