Job Description Summary

This non-tenure track faculty position is primarily focused on teaching and administrative responsibilities, including supporting adjunct faculty and supervisors, assisting staff, and advising students. The successful candidate will join our Inclusive Education/Education Specialist Preliminary Credential Program and will contribute to Early Childhood Special Education courses. This role also involves collaboration with the fieldwork team to assess applications for interns and student teachers, assign fieldwork supervisors, and manage fieldwork administrative processes within our teacher credential programs.

The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of inclusive education, particularly in preparing general education teachers and education specialists for effective service in inclusive environments and co-teaching scenarios. The position requires proficiency in various teaching and learning modalities, curriculum development, as well as strong communication and collaboration skills.

Essential qualifications include excellent organizational skills, the ability to make independent decisions, and the capacity to collaborate effectively with others. Familiarity with California state teaching and early childhood special education credential requirements is preferred. Knowledge of PK-12 district processes and the ability to engage with regional school districts is highly valued.

This is a full-time, year-round role that includes summer administrative and outreach responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

- Lead course and program development and implementation in the Inclusive/Education Specialist credential, Early Childhood Special Education, and/or Multiple Subject, with a specific focus on the Bakersfield regional campus.
- Advise students throughout their graduate program, emphasizing support and retention.
- Teach courses in the afternoon and evening, both in-person and online.
- Collaborate with faculty in Teacher Education on program initiatives and projects.
- Maintain high standards of competence in the discipline(s) and teaching methodologies through ongoing professional development.
- Review, evaluate, reflect, and revise program curricula and teaching methods through a self-evaluation process.

Student-Centered Duties:

- Serve as the regional faculty coordinator and primary contact for students regarding program policies and procedures.
- Support students in clinical fieldwork, student teaching, and internships.
- Assist regional faculty, adjuncts, and university supervisors.
- Attend regional meetings to promote and represent the university.
- Participate in college-related activities such as registration, student retention, and faculty selection.
- Maintain posted office hours and respond to inquiries in a timely manner.
- Evaluate student work constructively and provide timely feedback.
- Review and recommend student learning materials.
- Develop and utilize syllabi and course materials in accordance with university guidelines.
- Plan and implement effective teaching methods and materials that engage students from diverse educational backgrounds.
- Contribute to the advancement of departmental and university goals, focusing on student achievement, diversity, and community engagement.
- Meet or exceed professional standards and participate in activities to maintain program accreditation standards.
- Participate in official graduation ceremonies.

Minimum Qualifications:
- A master's degree in Education with a focus on Leadership or Education.
- A minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in both General Education and special education settings.
- Proven ability to work with diverse students and colleagues, creating inclusive classrooms and environments.
- Experience in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population in various formats.
- Expertise in inclusive settings and understanding of Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
- Familiarity with California teacher credential processes.

Preferred Qualifications:
- An earned doctorate (or ABD) in education or leadership.
- Demonstrated leadership experience and a desire to lead within the Teacher Education program.
- Understanding of positive behavior support and asset-based teaching.
- Evidence of successful teaching in higher education.
- Commitment to social justice and equity for learners.
- Knowledge of linguistically and culturally responsive practices grounded in equity principles.
- Experience teaching higher education courses or working with adult learners.
- Experience supervising and mentoring educators in secondary settings.
- Ability to develop effective partnerships with community stakeholders.
- Knowledge of collaboration using a strengths-based, equity-minded approach.
