Position Summary:

The Educational Support Assistant plays a crucial role in aiding educators to implement tailored educational strategies for students with diverse needs. This position acts as a bridge between teachers, behavior specialists, and families, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support educators in executing individualized educational plans (IEPs) and contribute to lesson planning with relevant insights.
  • Monitor and manage student behavior in accordance with established protocols.
  • Provide regular updates on student progress and performance to teaching staff.
  • Deliver vocational training based on personal expertise and student requirements (e.g., arts, crafts, clerical skills).
  • Engage in special events and programs with students as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate student records, including attendance and progress reports, while ensuring confidentiality.
  • Respond effectively to student incidents, utilizing de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention skills as needed.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities, including faculty meetings and training sessions, to enhance skills and stay informed about organizational policies.
  • Assist in promoting a safe and healthy environment for students by being vigilant and proactive.
  • Provide emotional support and guidance to students, fostering a positive and inclusive atmosphere.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:

This role involves standing, walking on varied terrain, lifting up to 40 pounds, and engaging in physical interventions when necessary.

Qualifications:
  • Understanding of child development principles and basic academic subjects, along with effective communication skills.
  • Ability to learn about the unique needs of students and assist in instructional activities.
  • A minimum of 48 college units is required.
  • Experience working with children with disabilities is preferred.
  • Must complete ProAct Training within the first month of employment.
  • First Aid and CPR Certification must be obtained within three months of employment.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a therapeutic team.
  • Commitment to the philosophy and mission of the organization.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are essential.
  • Must possess a valid California Driver License and meet insurance requirements.
  • All employment requirements, including background checks and health assessments, must be fulfilled.
