Job SummaryWe are seeking an experienced phlebotomist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for collecting and processing specimens from patients, ensuring quality assurance and safety policies are followed, and supporting patient flow as needed.
Key Responsibilities- Collect and process specimens from patients under direct supervision.
- Follow quality assurance and safety policies and procedures.
- Assist with patient flow as needed.
- Support and adhere to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.
- Perform phlebotomy and collect appropriate specimens from patients as ordered.
- Assure pre-authorizations and complete appropriate consent (ABN) prior to collection of limited coverage tests.
- Maintain proper documentation as described by the quality assurance program, including accessioning logs, equipment records, and checklists.
- Maintain adequate inventory of supplies and ensure that all supplies are viable before using for patient collection.
- Send specimens to reference laboratories for any testing not performed in-house.
- Process incoming orders for lab testing.
- Process in-house and in-coming reports.
- Update and file all daily paperwork, lab logs, and maintenance logs.
- Properly identify and band patients for blood product transfusion. Process properly labeled specimens according to local bloodbank policy.
- Operate designated laboratory equipment as directed.
- Use equipment effectively, skillfully, and efficiently.
- Maintain equipment and work area as directed.
- Perform waived lab testing under CLIA guidelines for personnel. Record proper lot numbers of all controls, calibrator, and reagents for waived lab tests.
- Comply with regulatory agency standards. Adhere to all OSHA compliance laws and Universal Precaution procedures.
- Properly dispose of hazardous materials.
- Maintain a clean working environment and restock the phlebotomy and laboratory area as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality of all information related to patients and medical staff.
- Minimum Qualifications:
- Position requires 3-5 years' experience.
- High school diploma or equivalent is recommended.
- Licensure from an accredited school of phlebotomy recommended.
