About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our University Relations team as the Executive Director of Parent & Family Development. This key leadership role will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive strategies to engage parents & families in supporting UC Santa Cruz through philanthropic initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Cultivate and steward relationships with parents, understanding their interests and motivations for supporting UC Santa Cruz, leading to gifts supporting the University.
  • Build and manage a portfolio of prospective major gift donor families.
  • Actively solicit gifts at all levels with a significant emphasis on major gifts ($50K and above).
  • Meet dollar and activity metrics set with the leadership of the division.
  • Create and support targeted engagement programs and events to involve parents in the university community.
  • Travel regularly within assigned regions to meet with prospects and donors.
  • Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of annual and campaign-specific fundraising efforts targeting parents.
  • Collaborate with the broader Advancement team to integrate parent fundraising into larger university campaigns.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher and five to seven years or more of combined major gifts and related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A track record of success in securing major gifts and meeting fundraising goals.
  • A dedication to and understanding of the skills required to build relationships with diverse communities.
  • A self-starter who thrives in an entrepreneurial environment and can manage a program with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across multiple units in a large and complex organization.
  • Expertise at major or principal gift level activity, primarily related to high-net-worth parent prospects.
  • A knowledge of growing and managing teams and individual talent and strategically building and engaging donor/prospect pools.
  • A high level of professional maturity and tact in interfacing with executives at the highest levels of the institution while addressing new opportunities with a collegial approach.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education.
  • Exemplary interpersonal and communication skills, with a particular sensitivity to an audience of parents.
