Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our team at Arkansas Hospice, Inc. as a Staff Registered Nurse - Hospice Care Specialist.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the interdisciplinary Plan of Care for assigned patients/families, providing appropriate interventions and support to meet their physical, psychological, social, economic, and spiritual needs.
  • Provide safe, high-quality, and comprehensive nursing care to assigned patients, families, and caregivers, coordinating development and revision of the patient's Plan of Care.
  • Assess patient/family/caregiver for response and acceptance of the hospice concept, providing accurate information regarding services and expectations for care.
  • Collaborate with the hospice physician to provide patient care that emphasizes the relief of pain and physical discomfort, addressing spiritual needs and emotional stresses associated with a life-threatening illness.
  • Obtain data on physical, psychological, social, and spiritual factors that may influence patient/family health status, incorporating the data into the plan of care as indicated.
  • Promote effective written and verbal communication with patients, families, interdisciplinary team members, and other healthcare providers, initiating communication with the attending physician and other community resources to report changes and coordinate optimal care and use of resources for assigned patients/families.
  • Maintain up-to-date patient records, accurately and clearly stating problems, plans, actions, and goals, and reflecting changes as they occur.
  • Document care given daily according to organizational guidelines.
  • Provide education and information about hospice and hospice care for patients, families, team members, and the community, teaching families and caregivers appropriate techniques for providing patient care.
  • Use equipment and supplies effectively and efficiently, ordering supplies, medications, and equipment appropriately.
  • Actively participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, case conferences, and other care plan meetings.
  • Conduct evaluations of Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) and/or Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) according to state health and federal regulations.
  • Actively participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality at all times.
  • Utilize and model excellent customer service skills at all times, seeking opportunities to assist patients, families, and co-workers, demonstrating teamwork and cooperation.
  • Accept direction and follow instructions from supervisor, seeking additional information as needed, working with minimal supervision.
  • Adhere to all organizational and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Continually meet organizational standards for attendance and punctuality, notifying supervisor in a timely manner when employee will be absent or late for work.
  • Attend all required meetings and in-services, seeking opportunities for additional professional development activities as appropriate.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Previous nursing experience in a hospital, home health agency, or hospice preferred; new graduates also eligible.
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Arkansas.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and occasional overtime required.
  • CPR certification required (Little Rock Inpatient Center).

  • Knowledge of the holistic approach toward patient care and the nursing process as it applies to hospice patients and families.

  • Ability to recognize both positive and negative aspects of death and grief.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

  • Ability to use good judgment and to maintain confidentiality of information.

  • Ability to demonstrate tact, resourcefulness, patience, and dedication.
  • Ability to accept direction and adhere to policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
