Key Responsibilities

A typical day for a Patient Care Technician at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Delivering both direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, tailored to the physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related needs of the patients served.
  • Ensuring effective and safe patient outcomes through sound practice, judgment, and critical decision-making.
  • Maintaining ongoing communication with patients, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals regarding patient status and care provided.
  • Taking initiative to exceed job expectations, proactively addressing situations, enhancing job performance, and creating new opportunities.
  • Engaging in interdisciplinary collaboration to develop and implement patient care plans from admission through discharge, ensuring safe transitions and continuity of care.
  • Contributing to Unit/Department Performance Improvement (PI) initiatives.

Qualifications

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
  • BLS/CPR certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required within 60 days of employment.
  • Completion of one of the following is necessary:
    • Certified Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, or Patient Care Technician program, or
    • Fundamentals of Nursing program from an accredited nursing school, or
    • HMH PCT Apprenticeship Program, or
    • Equivalent medical experience, such as EMT, Home Health Aide, CMA, PCT, or Nursing Assistant.
