Job Title: Nutrition Educator

Join Catholic Charities Diocese of San Diego in a rewarding role as a Nutrition Educator, where you will play a vital part in promoting healthy lifestyles and nutrition education to eligible populations.

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to assist with the planning and implementation of CalFresh Healthy Living curriculum in a linguistically and culturally competent manner. The successful candidate will conduct presentations at CCDSD and community sites, build relationships with new sites, and provide intra-agency support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of CalFresh Healthy Living curriculum.
  • Conduct presentations at CCDSD and community sites.
  • Build relationships with new sites and provide intra-agency support.
  • Collaborate with agency staff and community partners to create innovative ways to conduct nutrition education.
  • Provide program representation at community meetings.
  • Coordinate and follow-up on activities outlined in the CalFresh Healthy Living work plan.
  • Conduct research on tools and methods to implement PSE strategies.
  • Assist with data collection, reporting, and program planning.
  • Inform and/or screen individuals for eligibility for CalFresh food and other benefits.
  • Help clients apply for and navigate the process of verification, submission, interviews, and other application requirements.
  • Follow up with clients to ensure application approval and benefit amount.
  • Attend and/or lead resource/health fairs, community events, and other opportunities for outreach.
  • Learn and maintain in-depth knowledge of the program, agency, and partners.
  • Maintain updates on CalFresh policies and procedures.
  • Identify challenges/barriers among the eligible target population and strategize how to reduce barriers to participation.
Requirements
  • Knowledge of Catholic Charities services and resources.
  • Knowledge of community resources, health, and social services systems in Imperial County.
  • Ability to organize and plan own work.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy.
  • Flexible and proactive approach to work, with ability to prioritize and re-prioritize.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and conduct oneself in a professional manner.
  • Commitment to the mission and values associated with the agency and the program.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (desired).
  • Ability to learn and become proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
Working Conditions

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Must be able to travel to various locations as required by the program.

The work environment is usually moderate, with occasional exposure to noise and distractions.
