Position Overview:
Under general supervision, the Physical Therapist provides essential rehabilitation services by assessing patient needs, establishing objectives, and formulating treatment strategies in alignment with the Maryland Physical Therapy Practice Act.

Departmental Responsibilities:
Contributes to the efficient functioning of the Department.

Educational Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy.

Licensure and Certifications:
Must hold a current Maryland license as a Physical Therapist.
Healthcare Provider (CPR Certification) is required.

Experience:
No prior experience is necessary; however, two years of related experience is preferred.

Essential Skills:

  • Comprehensive understanding of physical therapy principles and practices.
  • Proficient in both verbal and written communication.
  • Strong organizational abilities.
  • Capable of prioritizing tasks and managing patient schedules effectively.
  • Adept at evaluating patient functionality, creating treatment plans, and tracking progress.
  • Ability to manage a typical caseload of up to two patients per hour.
  • Demonstrates exceptional customer service skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts evaluations of patients' functional capabilities, including:
    • Reviewing medical histories, diagnoses, and physician referrals.
    • Engaging in observations and discussions with patients and caregivers.
    • Applying relevant assessment techniques.
    • Collaborating with patients and caregivers to set short and long-term goals; developing care plans based on these goals and evaluation outcomes.
    • Implementing suitable therapeutic interventions, advancing treatment plans, and instructing patients and caregivers on activities to support therapy, including the provision and fitting of assistive devices while recognizing signs of patient distress that require follow-up.
    • Documenting evaluations, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries; maintaining records necessary for statistics, billing, and quality improvement initiatives.
    • Utilizing the support of Physical Therapist Assistants, Rehabilitation Technicians, and volunteers as appropriate, while providing necessary supervision.
    • Engaging with multidisciplinary team members to discuss evaluation results, patient progress, and other relevant information.
    • Communicating effectively with patients and caregivers to alleviate concerns, seek feedback, and encourage cooperation.
    • Participating in discharge planning with the interdisciplinary team, recommending suitable assistance and continuation of rehabilitation programs.
    • Involved in performance improvement initiatives, gathering data, and proposing areas for enhancement.
    • Addressing unit challenges, developing solutions, and following up with departmental staff.
