Position Overview:
Under general supervision, the Physical Therapist provides comprehensive physical therapy services by assessing patient needs, establishing goals, and formulating treatment plans in compliance with the Maryland Physical Therapy Practice Act.
Department Operations:
Contributes to the efficient functioning of the department.
Educational Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy.
Licensure and Certifications:
Must possess a current Maryland license as a Physical Therapist.
Certification in Healthcare Provider CPR.
Experience Requirements:
No prior experience required; however, two years of related experience is preferred.
Essential Skills:
- Understanding of physical therapy principles, methodologies, and standards.
- Proficient in both verbal and written communication.
- Organizational skills to manage time effectively.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and efficiently schedule patient appointments.
- Competence in evaluating patient functionality, crafting treatment plans, and tracking patient progress.
- Capacity to manage an average caseload of up to two patients per hour.
- Demonstrated customer service excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess the patient's functional abilities through:
- Reviewing medical history, diagnoses, and physician referrals.
- Conducting patient and caregiver interviews.
- Implementing suitable assessment techniques.
- Setting both short-term and long-term objectives with input from patients and caregivers; developing a care plan based on these goals and assessment findings.
- Executing appropriate therapeutic interventions, adjusting treatment plans as necessary, and instructing patients and caregivers on exercises to support therapy, including providing and fitting assistive devices while recognizing signs of patient distress that require follow-up.
- Documenting evaluations, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries; maintaining data for statistical, billing, and quality improvement purposes as needed.
- Utilizing the support of Physical Therapist Assistants, Rehabilitation Technicians, and volunteers as appropriate; providing necessary supervision as per regulations.
- Engaging with multidisciplinary team members to discuss evaluation results, patient progress, and other relevant information.
- Communicating with patients and caregivers to alleviate concerns, gather input, and encourage cooperation.
- Participating in discharge planning with the interdisciplinary team, recommending suitable assistance and continuation of rehabilitation services.
- Involvement in performance improvement initiatives, collecting data, and proposing areas for enhancement.
- Addressing unit challenges, developing solutions, and following up with departmental staff.
