Position Overview

This role involves professional responsibilities in delivering outreach services to a specific demographic as part of a collaborative Crisis Evaluation and Support Team (CEST). The focus is on providing treatment, rehabilitation, and assistance to individuals facing significant mental health challenges and severe functional impairments.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Implement crisis intervention and pre-hospitalization services for individuals experiencing acute mental health episodes.
  2. Offer consultations and assessments for those being considered for inpatient treatment or civil commitment.
  3. Conduct mental health evaluations for local healthcare facilities, emergency departments, correctional facilities, and other organizations seeking guidance on appropriate care levels for individuals in distress.
  4. Provide expert testimony in court regarding care recommendations.
  5. Engage in case staffing with fellow treatment team members.
  6. Participate in required clinical supervision.
  7. Engage in training initiatives mandated by Carastar to enhance professional and therapeutic competencies.
  8. Conduct initial client intake interviews following established protocols, assess client needs, and formulate treatment plans utilizing strength-based, client-centered approaches.
  9. Revise treatment plans as necessary, evaluating objectives, goals, and interventions.
  10. Document all services rendered in the Electronic Health Record system.
  11. Facilitate family education and support as specified in the treatment plan.
  12. Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Note: This position has a productivity requirement of 35%.

Qualifications

Extensive knowledge of individual and group dynamics, particularly concerning mental and emotional disorders.

Familiarity with counseling principles and methodologies.

Understanding of psychotropic medications, including their applications, potential misuse, and effects.

Proficient in assessing the mental status of individuals requiring mental health services.

Comprehensive knowledge of mental health services and available community resources.

Ability to foster and maintain positive relationships with clients, families, hospital personnel, and community mental health staff.

Capacity to work proactively, assertively, and energetically in fulfilling job responsibilities.

Ability to collaborate effectively as a member of a treatment team.

Willingness to operate in non-traditional and home-based settings.

Flexibility to work varied hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.

Possession of reliable transportation and readiness to transport clients.

Educational Requirements

A master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, or Psychology from an accredited institution.

Preferred credentials include ALC, LPC, LGSW, or LCSW (see note below).

Some clinical experience is advantageous.

Degree and experience must align with the criteria for Approved Medicaid Provider status.

A valid driver's license is required, along with a driving record acceptable to Carastar's insurance provider.

Must maintain at least liability coverage on personal vehicles.

Current certification in First Aid, CPI, and CPR from the Red Cross is required.

****Licensure is not mandatory for this position. Candidates without the aforementioned licenses are encouraged to apply. If selected, the individual will start as a Therapist I, which is classified within a lower salary range. While licensure is not a requirement, obtaining one in the future will facilitate advancement to the Therapist II classification.****
