Job Summary

This role is essential in delivering lifeguarding services at the Borough's aquatic facilities.

Responsibilities are executed in alignment with established policies, procedures, and the Borough's core values: Accountability, Customer Focus, Dedication, Integrity, Responsiveness, and Teamwork.

D1 - DOE
Minimum Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent, along with specialized training in the relevant field, which may include college courses, certificate programs, or apprenticeships.

Less than one year of experience is required.

Must possess American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification, as well as American Red Cross Lifeguarding and First Aid certifications.

Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening, background check, and physical examination is mandatory.

Completion of required Incident Command System (ICS) courses as per Borough policy is also necessary.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Enforce pool rules and regulations effectively.
  • Assist in maintaining cleanliness and operational efficiency of the facility.
  • Monitor and adjust pool and hot tub conditions; calibrate chemical readings and manage equipment accordingly.
  • Register patrons for classes and programs.
  • Handle cash transactions, including collecting payments and providing change.
  • Offer information and assistance to patrons.
  • Inspect the facility and report any unsafe conditions.
  • Complete incident and accident reports as required.
  • Participate in lifeguard training exercises regularly.
  • Respond to water emergencies and conduct water rescues when necessary.
  • Administer CPR and first aid as needed.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
Temporary and on-call employees for the Mat-Su Borough do not receive a benefits package. However, the following is a brief description of the only benefit provided to this class of employee:

Alaska Supplemental Benefits System:

The Supplemental Benefits System (SBS) is in lieu of Social Security and is mandatory. An employee contributes at 6.13% of gross wages, matched by the Borough (6.13%), on the present wage base of $132,900.

It is understood that the schedule for this position will vary based on operational needs, with hours limited to less than 30 per week and 1,000 per 12-month period. This is an on-call position that does not guarantee hours or benefits.
