Vice President of Research Operations

The Vice President of Research Operations will play a pivotal role in enhancing the university's research initiatives and ensuring effective management of sponsored programs.
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent).
- A minimum of ten (10) years of substantial leadership experience in managing grants, contracts, or complex federal awards.
- Proven experience in personnel management.
- Professional background in higher education institutions.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Advanced terminal degree (or equivalent).
- Over eleven (11) years of full-time experience in research administration.
- Demonstrated success in interdisciplinary collaboration within an academic environment, ideally in a leadership capacity.
- Comprehensive understanding of federal funding agencies.
- Experience as a Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator with federal or state funding.
Key Responsibilities:
- Report directly to the Vice President for Research and be an integral member of the leadership team.
- Provide strategic direction and oversight for the university's Sponsored Programs Administration and Grants Management.
- Collaborate with OSPA Directors and staff to foster a culture of exceptional customer service, accountability, and compliance.
- Oversee daily operations of the Office of the Vice President for Research, ensuring efficient infrastructure to support research growth.
- Engage with research faculty and administrative leaders on programmatic and administrative management of externally sponsored programs.
- Work closely with the research community to enhance the volume and financial value of awarded sponsored programs.
- Stay informed on legal, regulatory, and policy matters impacting the university's research mission.
- Identify and address emerging compliance trends affecting research activities.
- Handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion and independent judgment.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Assist in strategic planning and policy oversight for research.
- Provide operational leadership across various units, including Sponsored Programs and Grants Management.
- Represent the Office of the Vice President for Research in university-wide committees.
- Organize working groups with faculty and administrative staff.
- Liaise with federal agencies to ensure compliance in research operations.
- Oversee data-driven strategic planning to support research growth.
- Manage cost-sharing requests for research proposals.
- Develop effective communication strategies for research information dissemination.
- Contribute to the oversight of the University-wide Research Development Fund.
- Undertake additional duties as assigned.
