Job Responsibilities

The Commonwealth of Virginia's Department of Taxation is looking for skilled Auditors to join their Revenue Analysis and Planning Unit. In this role, you will carry out independent and intricate desk tax audits on both business entities and individuals, applying relevant auditing standards and procedures to ensure adherence to Virginia's tax regulations and minimize the tax gap for the state.

As a Tax Compliance Auditor, your key responsibilities will include:

• Conducting and finalizing complex desk audits independently and effectively.

• Engaging with taxpayers and other stakeholders in a prompt and professional manner.

• Providing thorough research and analysis for assigned tax matters and projects.

• Preparing and submitting all reports accurately, completely, and in a timely fashion.

• Performing additional duties as required.

Location and Work Arrangement
This position is based in the Central Office.

Compensation and Benefits
The anticipated salary for this position is competitive and based on experience, with a maximum of $57,000. As part of the Virginia Tax team, you will enjoy various benefits, including:

Qualifications

To be considered for this role, candidates should possess:

• A solid understanding of Virginia and federal tax laws, forms, schedules, and filing procedures.

• Experience in gathering information from multiple sources to arrive at accurate conclusions.

• Proficiency in analyzing or auditing tax or financial records to determine correct tax liabilities.

• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, suitable for interacting with taxpayers, industry groups, and other state agencies.

• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively to complete assigned tasks.

• Proficiency in using Windows-based systems and Microsoft Office Suite.

Additional Considerations

• Familiarity with accounting and auditing terminology, techniques, and principles.

• Experience in prioritizing tasks and managing multiple responsibilities.

• Professional experience in preparing and/or reviewing individual income tax returns.
