The Industry Solutions Engineering (ISE) team is a worldwide engineering unit that partners directly with clients aiming to utilize the latest advancements to confront their most significant challenges. We collaborate closely with the engineering teams of our clients to co-create code for cloud-centric solutions that can expedite their organizational goals. Our work involves partnerships with Microsoft product teams, industry partners, and open-source communities to empower our clients to maximize their cloud capabilities. We take pride in contributing to open-source initiatives and enhancing the usability of our platforms.

We craft solutions in tandem with our clients through collaborative innovation to address their needs. This role encompasses the development of widely applicable, impactful solution patterns and open-source software resources that enhance the Microsoft ecosystem. In this position, you will collaborate with engineers from both your team and our clients' teams, applying your skills, insights, and creativity to evolve as engineers and assist in overcoming our clients' most pressing challenges.

We are seeking a Lead Software Architect with extensive experience and proficiency in designing and delivering solutions utilizing contemporary software engineering methodologies and cloud technologies. Together with your team, you will engage directly with high-impact and strategic clients and their engineers to create groundbreaking solutions. You will have the opportunity to work with a diverse array of technologies, extending beyond just Microsoft offerings. You will tackle intriguing business challenges, contribute to open-source projects, and collaborate with Microsoft product teams. Additionally, you will mentor and guide fellow engineers within our team, sharing your knowledge while also learning from them.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field AND 6+ years of technical engineering experience with programming in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline AND 10+ years of technical engineering experience with programming in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline AND 8+ years of technical engineering experience with programming in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Strong design and coding capabilities with a focus on scalable architecture.
  • Proven ability to engage with clients and collaborate across organizational boundaries.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Azure, AWS, or comparable cloud computing platforms.
  • Experience in service delivery encompassing architecture, coding, and the development of online services.
  • Experience working as part of diverse, geographically dispersed, and virtual teams.
  • Willingness to travel and comfortable with travel up to 25%.

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Understand User Requirements: Collaborate with stakeholders to gather user requirements and feedback for scenarios and designs. Engage hands-on with your team and our clients from design through implementation of large-scale distributed systems, exemplifying best engineering practices and coding.
  • Design: Lead the architecture, design, testing, and quality assurance of products/solutions while mentoring team members. Be a supportive teammate, helping other engineers enhance their problem-solving, architectural, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Coding: Oversee code quality, optimization, debugging, and verification efforts across products.
  • Implement: Lead cross-product projects, experiments, and deployments aimed at enhancing customer value.
  • Engineering Excellence: Model our core values and serve as a mentor, coach, and advisor to fellow engineers on our team. Continuously enhance your technical knowledge and improve our capacity to deliver quality solutions by evolving our engineering processes and technical capabilities.
