General Information:
Salary Range: $81,242 (Step 01) to $105,612 (Step 10); Note: New hires in the Federal Government are generally appointed at Step 01.

This position is available to current or former Federal employees.
Key Responsibilities:
As an Electronics Technician at the Earthquake Science Center, your responsibilities will encompass:
- Overseeing the maintenance of the current network of analog and digital equipment along with relay stations.
- Executing the installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and repair of advanced electronic components for seismic stations.
- Designing, planning, and constructing electronic and mechanical systems for the deployment of new seismic stations.
- Collaborating with scientists and engineers from various institutions on specialized studies and field responses to significant seismic events.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of standing and intricate electronics tasks are essential. Fieldwork entails moderate physical demands, including bending, reaching, lifting, and transporting heavy items, climbing, digging, and traversing uneven terrain. Some tasks may involve special training for hazardous conditions, such as operating specialized aircraft, climbing towers, and using heavy machinery. Extended travel days in vehicles, aircraft, or marine vessels may occur.
Work Environment:
The role involves working in an office, electronics laboratory, computer rooms, and field settings, which may include urban areas as well as rugged and remote environments. Travel may involve unpaved roads and unconventional means such as boats or helicopters. Overnight travel may be necessary, and the position may require work in potentially hazardous conditions, including electrical hazards, falls, and exposure to extreme weather.

Qualifications:
To qualify for the GS-11 level, applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
- One year of relevant professional experience equivalent to at least the GS-10 level in Federal service, which may include resolving unique design challenges, developing new components with critical tolerances, and collaborating with scientists to understand project objectives.
- Three years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in electrical engineering, electronics engineering, or a related field.
- A combination of graduate-level education and professional experience as described above.
Education:
Experience includes both paid and unpaid work, including volunteer roles through National Service programs and other organizations. All qualifying experience, including volunteer work, will be credited.
