Shrub Oak International School is a world-class, private, special education boarding and day school preparing students for independent adult life and employment. We serve the sophisticated needs of an international co-ed population of young adults on the Autism Spectrum.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain the facilities and campus in a safe, clean, secure, and properly functioning condition, ensuring that the overall condition of the property is above standard.
  • Perform regular maintenance inspections, complete repairs and maintenance as needed, and proactively identify and report on vendor performance.
  • Self-perform basic repairs related to plumbing, electrical, mechanical equipment, HVAC, and fire extinguishers.
  • Perform light carpentry, painting, drywall, flooring, plumbing, and minor electrical tasks.
  • Sweep, mop, scrub, and vacuum, dust and polish surfaces.
  • Accept deliveries, inspect the grounds, and attend to facilities-related issues as they arise.
  • Collect and dispose of obsolete equipment and trash.
  • Set up furniture and equipment.
  • Handle minor repairs and furniture assembly.
  • Make signs and name plates.
  • Perform a variety of maintenance tasks and responsibilities related to grounds and building care, and preventive maintenance on building, grounds, and equipment.
  • Replace lights, paint, and assemble components.
  • Maintain solid working relationships with building staff, vendors, landlords, and service providers.
  • Operate equipment to perform responsibilities.
  • Remain responsible for all appearance, functionality, and maintenance of properties assigned.
  • Assist in setting up for school events as necessary.
  • Unpack shipments.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with staff, security, administration, and other teams to support the smooth workings of the school.
  • Handle any and all responsibilities as needed and required.
Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in facilities and/or maintenance.
  • Licensed plumber and/or electrician preferred.
  • Ability to follow basic safety procedures and precautions due to physical risks.
  • Demonstrates interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to understand and follow simple instructions and operate proactively and independently.
  • Excellent organizational and follow-up skills with strong attention to detail, with an ability to complete all assigned tasks as scheduled.
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to adhere to procedures.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record.
Work Environment

The work is regularly performed in a combination of office site buildings and throughout the external grounds, and can be exposed to among other things, the environment, dust, odors, oil, and noise.

Physical Demands
  • Workday regularly includes multiple or conflicting demands, deadlines, and time pressures.
  • Work may require sustained concentration, considerable physical effort, or manual dexterity.
  • Sufficient vision (with correction) to read and to observe more distant objects.
  • Requires the ability to understand and follow oral and/or written instructions.
  • Requires ability to lift up to 50 lbs, dexterity to use tools related to the job, and working with cleaning solutions.
  • Requires walking, standing, climbing, reaching overhead, and bending.
