Regional Community Engagement Specialist

As a key member of the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services, the Regional Community Engagement Specialist will play a vital role in supporting the Office of Border Health and Community Health Improvement Program initiatives. The successful candidate will be responsible for building relationships with selected communities, identifying and developing cross-sector partnerships, and leading community engagement activities to reduce health disparities, including COVID-19, among vulnerable populations in Texas.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct community needs assessments and develop community engagement plans to improve health conditions and reduce health disparities.
Collaborate with the regional team and Manager IV to develop and implement community engagement activities, including listening sessions, focus groups, and interviews with community members and partner organizations.
Identify and engage cross-sector community partners to establish cross-sector community partnerships and develop initiatives aimed at improving health, well-being, and resilience ahead of future public health emergencies.
Analyze project activities and make recommendations for improvement, including developing and implementing action improvement plans.
Collaborate with DSHS programs to ensure evaluation data and information needs are included in community engagement activities and identify opportunities for collaboration and coordination with other grant partners in the region.
Requirements:
Bilingual/Biliterate (English/Spanish) required.
Knowledge of public health issues and essential public health functions, nutrition and physical activity health promotion activities, program and policy assessment, planning, development, implementation, and evaluation, local, state, and federal laws, regulations, and policies, life course theory and other preventive health theories, population-based health outcomes measurement and health delivery systems, including managed care, chronic disease and risk factors and evidence-based interventions, cultural practices on the US-Mexico border, current social, economic, and public health issues, and Mexican public health systems and programs.
Skill in researching and interpreting policies, rules, and requirements, gathering and analyzing data for program decisions and writing reports, effective verbal and written communication as well as public speaking, working with diverse groups and committees comprised of internal and external stakeholders, developing and delivering presentations to both lay and professional groups, operating audio-visual equipment, computer, and applicable software, time management and organization, planning, coordinating, and conducting workshops, conferences, and meetings, planning and executing program activities, cross-cultural communication, implementing quality control activities, and communicating (orally and in writing) in English and Spanish.
