Key Responsibilities- Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure compliance with all relevant OSHA, EPA, DOT, and company policy procedure requirements for safety and health activities.
- Safety Program Development: Revises existing safety and health materials, programs, systems, or procedures for all construction assigned facilities within the business segment. Develops new training materials, programs, systems, or procedures for operations and construction-related safety issues.
- Permitting and Approvals: Prepares and obtains safety permits or approvals.
- Regulatory Affairs: Prepares formal comments on new rules and regulations for submission to State or Federal agencies. Acts as a company representative for interaction with regulatory agencies, inspections, etc.
- Collaboration and Communication: Collaborates with peers to prepare Policies, Plans, and Procedures to be implemented across multiple business units. Develops or oversees the development of project or site-specific safety plans, local and state safety committees, investigation or remediation work plans, etc.
- Leadership and Teamwork: Effectively works independently or as a member of a project team or leader of a project team of Coordinators. Negotiates simple issues with State, Federal, or County regulators. Manages third-party consultants who collect information needed for company or contractor safety, job sites, and projects.
- Investigations and Root Cause Analysis: Investigates collisions, injuries, and complaints concerning hazards or uncomfortable conditions in the workplace. Leads and participates in root cause investigations. Where the investigation determines changes in work practices are necessary, oversees the development of those changes and assists in the implementation.
- Process Improvement: Recommends improvements in processes, design, procedures, and operating equipment to minimize the hazard potential or safety and/or environmental impact.
- Reporting and Data Analysis: Oversees safety performance data and statistics, including safety loss event notifications and near-miss reporting programs. Assists in post-incident root cause investigations and overall occupational safety and health management programs.
- Education: College degree in Occupational Health and Safety Management, Safety Science, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or other safety-related field. Equivalent experience may be substituted in part.
- Experience: One to five years of experience in one or more of the functional areas such as occupational safety, risk management, environmental, auditing, regulatory compliance, etc., or academic equivalent preferred.
- Skills and Abilities: Ability to compose technical information, prepare manuals, policies, procedures, and scripts. Diversified and thorough knowledge of state and federal safety and health regulatory programs required, with natural gas distribution-specific knowledge preferred. Ability to work and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with employees at all levels of the organization and from other organizations.
- Work Environment: 60% indoors, 40% outdoors. Sitting 50%, standing/walking 35%, and kneeling/bending/stooping 15%. Overtime and travel (25%) required. Motor vehicle check required.
