The Registered Clinical Dietitian plays a crucial role in developing both standard and specialized dietary plans for patients across all age groups, as directed by the Medical Team.

Responsibilities encompass regular patient visits, providing nutritional counseling, and engaging in educational initiatives for the hospital, community, and outpatient settings. The Dietitian also contributes to the department's Quality Assessment and Quality Improvement strategies. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Nutritional Evaluation

  • Evaluates the nutritional health of patients spanning pediatric to geriatric demographics.
  • Records, assesses, and recommends dietary needs for patients.
  • Establishes criteria for nutritional screenings.
  • Recognizes unique dietary requirements.
  • Analyzes and documents nutritional assessments in patient medical records.
  • Designs standard and specialized meal plans in accordance with approved dietary guidelines and patient age requirements.
  • Engages with family members or significant others to involve them in the care planning process.

Patient Education

  • Offers dietary counseling on various therapeutic diets tailored to different life stages.
  • Instructs patients, families, caregivers, and staff on Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT).

  • Oversees the outpatient nutritional counseling program.
  • Ensures all counseling sessions are documented per established policies.
  • Participates in educational activities within the hospital.

Patient Food Services

  • Evaluates food quality on the tray line for presentation, flavor, and temperature, adhering to Policies and Procedures.
  • Ensures the proficiency of department staff and provides guidance for their development.
  • Conducts clinical in-service training for the Nutritional Services Department and organizes monthly meetings, documenting objectives and attendance. Engages in ongoing education to maintain licensure and registration.

Professional Duties

  • Possesses knowledge of patient growth and development across all age groups.
  • Maintains licensure and engages in continuing education, sharing relevant information with hospital staff.
  • Participates in ongoing assessment and improvement initiatives.
  • Initiates continuous Quality Improvement in daily responsibilities.
  • Collects and analyzes data to identify performance trends for improvement.
  • Collaborates with inter-departmental and interdisciplinary teams focused on enhancing patient care.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Training: Must be registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration and licensed by the appropriate State to practice Dietetics. A Bachelor’s degree in Food/Nutrition, General Dietetics, or Dietetics is required. Registration eligibility through the American Dietetic Association is necessary.

Experience: A minimum of three years in a clinical environment is preferred. Experience in rehabilitation settings is advantageous.
