Job Title: Employment Attorney

The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) is seeking a highly skilled Employment Attorney to join our team.

Job Summary:

The Employment Attorney will provide analysis and recommendations on legal issues related to employment law, with a focus on ADA compliance. The successful candidate will serve as a liaison between the agency, Department of Law, Department of Administrative Services, and regulatory agencies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the Department's ADA Coordinator
  • Coordinate with Human Resources leadership, Employee Relations Specialists, and Legal Services leadership to review and consider ADA matters
  • Offer technical assistance and consultation on ADA-related matters
  • Assist with criminal history background check review and determinations
  • Coordinate with Human Resources leadership to review and consider unlawful discrimination complaints and support investigations
  • Draft EEOC/GCEO position statements and coordinate external agency review and response
  • Assist with Worker's Compensation claims processing and administration
  • Assist with sexual harassment and workplace violence matters
  • Monitor and address matters related to State Personnel Board Regulations
  • Develop and implement administrative processes to maintain legal compliance
  • Identify and resolve legal issues
  • Provide analysis and recommendations on legal, liability, and risk-management issues
  • Work as coordinating counsel with the Department of Law
  • Provide research and analysis on legal, policy, and environmental issues
  • Act as a resource for questions and evaluations of reimbursements or recoupments
  • Review investigative reports and identify areas for further investigation
Requirements:
  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university and license to practice law in the State of Georgia
  • Two years of relevant legal experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and promote ethical conduct
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with employment law, health law, developmental disabilities law, or behavioral health law
  • Top 1/3 of graduating class
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills
