As a Full Stack Engineer within the Digital Payments division, you will play a crucial role in modernizing digital payment systems aimed at reducing fraud and safeguarding all entities within the payment ecosystem, including Discover's customers. You will design and deploy robust software systems at scale. By collaborating with cross-functional teams, you will develop and maintain comprehensive solutions that align with our business objectives. Your comprehensive understanding of all products and their interrelations will enable you to devise sophisticated solutions and strategize the future of our broader technical framework. Through independent innovation and advocacy for best practices, you will tackle complex challenges and guide the team in implementing solutions from conception to deployment.

Additionally, you will oversee the design and implementation of products assigned to your team. You will be expected to think critically and independently manage user stories and new features from concept to production. You will actively monitor and escalate risks and customer-impacting issues in your daily responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze, design, program, test, and deploy new user stories and features with a focus on high quality (security, reliability, operations) in production.
  • Mentor Associate Application Engineers by providing learning opportunities and directing the work of Senior Associate Application Engineers, fostering their growth.
  • Achieve team commitments and influence others through informal leadership and strong communication skills.
  • Guide design decisions and lead the team to achieve significant results for the products assigned to you.
  • Address issues using engineering principles and create proactive design solutions for potential failures.
  • Contribute to and lead technology communities within Discover.
  • Work in a paired programming environment.
  • Adhere to Agile methodology, working in two-week sprints, with each engineer responsible for writing their own test scripts.

Minimum Qualifications:

At a minimum, here’s what we need from you:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Internal applicants only: technical proficiency rating of competent on the Dreyfus engineering scale.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bonus Points If You Have:

  • Experience with the technical stack for this group, including Java, AWS, Kubernetes, Spring, Postgres, Oracle, and TomCat.
  • Hands-on experience in a Cloud-based environment, specifically AWS.
  • Experience with container implementation, ideally using Docker, as well as CI/CD pipeline experience.

Compensation:

The base pay for this position generally ranges between $86,500.00 to $146,000.00. Additional incentives may be provided as part of a competitive total compensation package. Factors such as geographical location, relevant experience, education, and skill level may influence the pay for this position.
