Position Overview:Discover does not provide sponsorship or transfer for employment work visas for this role. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
The Tableau Solutions Engineer will oversee the design, execution, and upkeep of Tableau dashboards and reports, delivering business intelligence insights for Discover's Enterprise Data Risk Management division, utilized by both internal and external clients.
This role entails managing the design and execution of projects assigned to the team, enabling the engineer to independently transform user stories and new features from concept to production. The engineer will proactively manage and escalate risks and issues that could impact customers during daily operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and conduct unit testing of Tableau reports and dashboards, ensuring scalability, security, performance, reusability, and optimal user experience.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to comprehend the requirements and objectives of the dashboards and reports.
- Document requirements and work with internal clients to create, test, and finalize valuable dashboards and visualizations that provide insights and enhance decision-making.
- Address support tickets related to Tableau products within the organization.
- Continuously review dashboard usage to gauge the effectiveness of deployed reports and visualizations.
- Analyze, design, code, test, and deploy new user stories and product features with a focus on quality (security, reliability, operations) in production. Understand the software development lifecycle and apply critical thinking to evaluate features and functionalities.
- Mentor early-career engineers by assigning learning and work-related tasks, guiding their development in technical skills.
- Oversee application, system, and architectural design decisions, guiding the team towards achieving key outcomes for assigned products.
- Address issues using engineering principles and develop proactive design solutions to prevent potential failures, ensuring high reliability of technical solutions.
- Achieve team objectives and encourage collaboration among engineers, architects, product owners, and data scientists.
- Contribute to and lead technology communities of practice at Discover in areas such as design-thinking, tools/technology, agile software development, security, architecture, and data.
- Establish and uphold IT standards within the system/application infrastructure, ensuring compatibility with the platform architecture.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify, candidates should possess:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Informatics, Information Security, Information Technology, or a related field.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
- For internal applicants: a technical proficiency rating of competent on the Dreyfus engineering scale.
Preferred Qualifications:
We would also appreciate:
- Proficiency in SQL and general database skills (experience with Snowflake and/or Teradata is a plus).
- A strong understanding of calculated fields, interactive filters, and parameters essential for optimal presentation and user experience.
- Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with requestors and upstream system owners to ensure data accuracy.
- Strong documentation skills to maintain workflows, data flows, and dashboard functionalities.
- Experience in creating Tableau Data Sources.
- Data engineering expertise, particularly in extract, transform, and load (ETL) processes and technologies.
- Experience in data modeling.
- Familiarity with data governance and management software tools (e.g., Alation, Anomalo, Metadata Hub).
External candidates will be required to undergo a technical interview.
Compensation:
The base salary for this position typically ranges between $86,500.00 to $146,000. Additional incentives may be included as part of a competitive total compensation package. Factors such as geographical location, relevant experience, education, and skill level may influence the salary for this role.
