The Town of Essex, Vermont is looking for a Community Affairs Liaison to operate under the guidance of the Chief of Police or designated personnel. This role is a civilian support position that embodies the Police Department's outreach efforts through a spectrum of routine to intricate responsibilities concerning public engagement, education, and information dissemination.
The selected candidate will play a crucial role in establishing, developing, coordinating, and executing community outreach initiatives aimed at enhancing and sustaining the relationship between law enforcement and the community. This liaison will act as the primary public information resource for the department and will undertake related responsibilities as necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate community outreach programs.
- Serve as the department's main point of contact for public information.
- Attend and support the Police Advisory Committee during their monthly meetings.
Work Schedule: Regular working hours are typically from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, although flexibility is required based on departmental needs. Attendance at meetings and events outside standard business hours, including evenings and weekends, is expected.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in fields such as Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or a related discipline. A minimum of 1-2 years of progressively responsible experience in public information dissemination is preferred. Experience in public relations or marketing within a municipal police or sheriff's department is highly advantageous. Alternatively, five years of relevant experience may substitute for formal education.
Compensation and Benefits: The starting salary range for this position is $27-$37 per hour, contingent upon qualifications and experience. The position includes comprehensive health, dental, vision, retirement benefits, disability coverage, and paid leave.
