Job Title: Director of Sacred Music

Location: National Shrine of Saint Rita of Cascia

Reports to: Executive Director

Supervises: Choir Members, Instrumentalists, Volunteers

Status: Full-time (roughly 40 hours per week, including some nights and weekends)

About the Shrine

The National Shrine of Saint Rita of Cascia is a Roman Catholic community of prayer and worship deeply rooted in Augustinian spirituality. Our mission is to inspire people from all walks of life to live the virtues of Saint Rita, a healer, reconciler, and peacemaker.

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Director of Sacred Music to lead our liturgical music program. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing all liturgical music at the National Shrine of Saint Rita of Cascia.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and oversee all liturgical music at the National Shrine of Saint Rita of Cascia
  • Select, prepare, and coordinate music year-round for all liturgical activities at the Shrine, according to season and need
  • Work with the Shrine's staff and Augustinian Friars to elevate our offerings of song, prayer, and worship
  • Recruit and form capable professional and volunteer music ministers, cantors, and choir members
  • Manage budget for professional musicians and coordinate the payment of stipends
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive and sustainable liturgical music strategy

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in music ministry, preferably developing and implementing a comprehensive music ministry program
  • Experience in coordinating auditions, forming cantors, and leading rehearsals
  • Intentional planning and decision-making capabilities based on liturgical season, the Shrine's identity, the breadth of the Church's sacred music, the skill set of musicians, and current needs
  • Excellent interpersonal, management, and organization skills
  • Superior communication skills to express, orally and in writing, the Shrine's mission, vision, and goals with clarity, passion, and persuasion
  • Demonstrate collegiality with staff and patrons in pursuit of our shared mission
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required; Master's or Doctoral Degree preferred
