Job Summary

This is a challenging and rewarding role as a Field Training Officer with the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for training and supervising new Probation and Parole Officers within a district. You will work closely with our team to ensure that our officers receive the best possible training and support to excel in their roles.

Key Responsibilities
  • Train and supervise new Probation and Parole Officers in the techniques of case management and counseling of offenders.
  • Develop and implement training programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of Probation and Parole Officers.
  • Collaborate with other teams to ensure that our officers receive comprehensive training and support.
  • Conduct regular evaluations and assessments of Probation and Parole Officers to ensure they are meeting performance standards.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community resources and organizations to support the rehabilitation and reintegration of offenders.
Requirements
  • Must be a current North Carolina Probation/Parole Officer with at least two years' experience.
  • Must have experience applying the principles of evidence-based practice in daily activities.
  • Must have experience using worksheets to address criminogenic needs, specifically Carey Guides, Thinking reports, BITS tools, and/or Decisional Balance.
  • Must have working knowledge of offender supervision strategies and their appropriate application, treatment services, and accessing community resources.
  • Must have experience teaching Carey guides, case planning, JR, Motivational Interviewing, SRG (Security Risk Group), or other Sustainability training teams in the District.
  • Must have experience using high-risk delegated authority or delegated authority.
  • Must use PPO roster to assist in managing caseload.
Working Conditions

This position requires working flexible hours, including days, nights, and weekends, emergency response, and on-call availability. The position may require some overtime. The Field Training Officer will report to the Judicial District Manager and will be responsible for serving on the Electronic House Arrest Response Team (EHART) and serving on call when situations warrant.
