Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Medical Assistant to join our team at Growth Centers of America. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing primary care to adolescents aged 11-17 who are struggling with mental health issues, eating disorders, and/or substance abuse.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect and document vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respiratory rate, height, and weight.
  • Conduct drug screen tests and body checks as required.
  • Provide 1:1 supervision of at-risk clients, including those with suicidal ideation or substance abuse risk.
  • Support coordination of milieu treatment with Primary Therapists and Psychiatrists via client records, staff communication, and counseling/staff meetings.
  • Observe and monitor clients' behavior, intervening as necessary based on schedule, individual client treatment plans, and facility needs.
  • Ensure accurate and timely distribution of medications, as directed by the Psychiatrist and in accordance with medication management policy.
  • Supervise self-administration of client medications and update medication management system logs daily.
  • Ensure all medications are ordered in a timely manner and maintain accurate records.
  • Write detailed shift logs, including check-in, check-out, and summary of shift events.
  • Report and discuss patient progress, problems, and observations with supervisor.
  • Submit detailed notes for each client, including fitness activities, food diaries, and 12-step meeting attendance.
  • Obtain and document client weight weekly.
  • Work with supervisor to ensure facility adherence to all company policies and procedures.
  • Oversee all medical appointments with outside providers and follow emergency procedures as prescribed.
  • Attend weekly training meetings and perform other duties assigned by supervisor.
Requirements & Preferences
  • Pass a fingerprinting background clearance.
  • Medical Assistant Certification, preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of related experience, preferred.
  • Experience working with adolescents aged 11-17, preferred.
  • Crisis management skills, preferred.
  • Knowledge of psychopathology and dual diagnosis, preferred.
Education and Certification
  • High school diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Medical Assistant certification from an accredited educational institution, required.
  • CPR and First Aid certification, required.
Physical Requirements
  • Intermittent sitting, standing, walking, lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 30 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity.
