Position Overview:


We are looking for a Lead Project Engineer to join our Body Exteriors team, responsible for spearheading the development of Vehicle Exterior designs. This role encompasses Requirements Definition, Design Validation Planning, Design & Release, BOM management, Engineering Change Management, and Issue Resolution. The successful candidate will be expected to work autonomously for extended periods.

Design solutions must meet the functional requirements of the application while considering cost, weight, quality, manufacturability, and serviceability. Frequent collaboration with Vehicle Platform, Program Management, Validation, Procurement, Supplier Quality, Suppliers, Manufacturing, and Field Service is anticipated.

The ideal candidate will contribute expertise to the team, offering mentorship to junior staff and fostering best practices within the group.

Key Responsibilities:
Provide technical and analytical support to Product Development Engineering. Offer guidance to less experienced team members and escalate unresolved issues to higher levels.

Act as a central resource during the product lifecycle, collaborating with design, process, manufacturing, testing, quality, and marketing as products transition to production and distribution.

Engagement may span all stages of a product's lifecycle, including modifications, upgrades, and maintenance.

  • Conceptualize, design, and release exterior components for new products while addressing current product challenges.
  • Generate CAD models and prints within the NX/Team Center environment.
  • Assist in supplier-requested changes and resolve quality and design issues under the supervision of experienced engineers.
  • Lead cross-functional team meetings with suppliers and manufacturing plants for assigned projects.
  • Create DFMEA, DVP, and validation plans for designs.
  • Develop release schedules and overall timing plans to support program deliverables throughout the product development process.


Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Computer Science with a minimum of 5 years of experience in product design/development, or a Master's degree with at least 3 years of experience, or a PhD in a related field.

Additional Requirements:


Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.



Desired Skills:
Experience in truck and/or automotive design and development, from initial styling concepts through design, validation, and launch.
  • Familiarity with designing plastic components for various molding processes is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in design and layout using Unigraphics UG-NX2 or similar CAD software.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate in a team environment and effectively interface with suppliers and cross-functional teams to ensure timely project execution.
  • Knowledge of design quality tools such as Failure Modes Effects Analysis and DVP.
  • Understanding of Agile methodologies, Design for Manufacturing, Design for Assembly, and Basic Dimensional Management (GD&T).
  • Problem-solving skills, including methodologies like 8D and statistical problem-solving techniques, are a plus.
