Job Summary:

The Laboratory Client Services Representative is a vital member of our team at Tucson Medical Center, responsible for providing exceptional support to our clinical staff and patients. This role requires a unique blend of technical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and a passion for delivering outstanding customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

• Serve as a liaison between clinical departments, providing accurate and timely information to patients and healthcare providers.
• Maintain laboratory documents and ensure quality control, ensuring that patient specimens are processed efficiently and effectively.
• Consult with physicians regarding test results, technical issues, and other matters related to laboratory services.
• Provide an efficient and efficacious liaison between testing departments, results, reference laboratories, and shipping departments.
• Research, resolve, and document specimen or testing issues, communicating with customers as needed.
• Act as a resource for customers, providing test information, results, ordering instructions, and other support as required.
• Ensure that patient specimen rejections, Quality Not Sufficient (QNS), and Duplicate Patient Record are communicated to the client in a timely manner.
• Handle incoming and outgoing telephone calls, exercising judgment to direct calls to the appropriate client or personnel.
• Perform office functions such as filing, copying, faxing, and distribution of laboratory documents.
• Process, check, and maintain various laboratory records and data, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
• Log or enter laboratory results, ensuring appropriateness of values sent by the reference laboratory, as compared to QA/QC ranges.
• Assist with training of assigned personnel and resolve problem specimens according to specific requirements.
• Search and/or retrieve mislabeled, quantity-not-sufficient, or unlabelled specimens, and enter and retrieve data utilizing knowledge of various computer software packages.
• Operate a personal computer, calculator, fax machine, copy machine, or related office machinery in performing assigned duties.
• Adhere to TMC organizational and department-specific safety, confidentiality, values policies and standards.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
• Six (6) months customer service experience required, with laboratory experience preferred.
• None required, but knowledge of lab test and orders, effective verbal and written communications, advanced computer skills, and ability to multitask are essential.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations, and prepare routine reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
