Position Summary
Under the guidance of supervisory staff, the Parks Operations Technician II is responsible for executing grounds maintenance and performing various construction and repair tasks in parks, recreational areas, and public facilities. This role entails overseeing a designated section within a park or recreational facility and may include specialized maintenance duties or limited supervisory responsibilities over entry-level maintenance workers or temporary staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute proper planting, cultivation, and maintenance of trees, shrubs, lawns, and flowers.
  • Utilize and maintain gardening tools and equipment essential for park and facility upkeep.
  • Apply basic plumbing, masonry, and carpentry skills as needed.
  • Implement effective methods for managing plant diseases and pest control.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and procedures.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Work independently while performing skilled and semi-skilled maintenance tasks.
  • Provide guidance and instruction to junior staff members.
  • Operate and maintain various power equipment and vehicles.
  • Recognize and address common plant health issues.
  • Perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting and manual labor.
  • Identify potential safety risks in the work environment.
  • Follow both written and verbal instructions effectively.
  • Demonstrate basic mathematical skills for operational tasks.
  • Communicate effectively in English to fulfill job requirements.

Employment Requirements

Minimum Qualifications
Either: One year of full-time experience as a Park Maintenance Worker I within the organization.
Or: Two years of full-time experience in general grounds maintenance and repair work relevant to the responsibilities of the Parks Operations Technician II role.
Note: Full-time paid experience is required unless otherwise stated. Part-time experience may be considered on a pro-rated basis.
Special Requirements

  • Valid California Driver License, Class C or higher, is required.
  • Ability to obtain a Class A or B California Driver License may be necessary for certain positions.
  • Must be capable of performing physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy objects and working in various weather conditions.
  • Applicants must be at least eighteen years of age due to job-related hazards.

Additional Information

The probationary period for this classification is six months.
