Our finance division is expanding, and we are in search of an Accountant at our Carlin Complex. The chosen candidate will assist in executing accounting responsibilities related to the Carlin operations; prepare general ledger entries, assess costs for accuracy and completeness, aid in the development of budgets and forecasts, support management as needed, and assist site leadership in comprehending their financials; perform additional tasks as assigned.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end closing process, including quarterly financial audits and control assessments.
  • Conduct account reconciliations, verify costs for accuracy, and analyze balances to investigate and proactively resolve discrepancies.
  • Develop an understanding of IFRS/GAAP and Barrick accounting policies, procedures, and internal control standards, ensuring compliance while fulfilling responsibilities.
  • Facilitate the preparation, consolidation, and review of all budgeting and forecasting activities.
  • Gather and organize financial data and input it into financial models.
  • Monitor and assess financial performance by comparing actual results with budgets/forecasts, including variance analysis.
  • Create customized templates, reports, and analyses for departmental managers to evaluate their operations.
  • Track and report capital expenditures to project managers, budget/forecast capital allocations, and review financial analyses for requested expenditures.
  • Collaborate closely with project teams as necessary.
  • Identify and implement efficiency and process enhancements.
  • Recognize and communicate potential challenges to supervisors as appropriate.
  • Contribute ideas and actions towards the ongoing improvement of processes within the area of influence.
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining strong, collaborative relationships with finance stakeholders.
  • Provide and encourage constructive feedback, contribute to fostering a positive team culture, and prioritize team success over individual interests.
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols and training requirements.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field required; Master's degree in Accounting or MBA preferred
  • One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, accounting internship, or demonstrated initiative preferred for Accountant I; Three (3) to six (6) years of relevant experience preferred for Accountant II
  • Strong technical accounting skills, understanding of accounting principles, and awareness of business-related implications required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office required
  • Ability to remain organized, efficient, analytical, and detail-oriented required
  • Excellent team player capable of collaborating with Staff Accountants, Mine Sites, Executives, and cross-functional teams required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and able to manage multiple demands and priorities required
  • Prior experience with SAP, OneStream, or Xeras applications preferred
  • Exposure to the mining sector in an accounting or analytical capacity preferred
