Job Summary

The Hunter Museum of American Art is seeking a highly skilled Guest Services Associate to provide exceptional customer experiences for museum guests, gift shop customers, and teammates. This role requires a strong focus on customer service, organization, and efficiency, ensuring guests are attended to appropriately and accurately recording member visitation data and guest admission payment.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Guest Services Desk Operations: Perform daily operations of the guest service desk, adhering to admission and cash handling procedures, and balancing the drawer before and after every shift.
  2. Visitor Engagement: Greet and orient visitors and self-guided groups, ensuring a positive museum experience.
  3. Training and Development: Participate in regular training to maintain a working knowledge of the exhibitions and programs offered by the Hunter Museum.
  4. Customer Feedback: Encourage and record guest feedback through surveys, providing valuable insights for improving customer experiences.
  5. Facility Maintenance: Work with the facility department to ensure public spaces are neat, clean, and inviting.
  6. Gift Shop Operations: Assist with everyday operations of the museum gift shop, including merchandising, pricing, stocking, receiving, ordering, and managing store display and consignment products, with a focus on customer service.
  7. Special Events: Assist with special store promotions, including trunk shows, book signings, holiday promotions, and special group promotions.
Requirements
  • Education: College degree preferred with coursework in business, marketing, sales, and/or art history.
  • Experience: Related customer service work experience, education, and/or training.
  • Skills: Microsoft Office skills, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Access; knowledge of guest service principles, practices, and procedures; strong communication, negotiation, and leadership skills; retail sales experience preferred; knowledge of POS cash register procedures; and strong technological skills, including familiarity with database systems and phone applications.
Work Environment

This is a part-time, hourly position that requires flexibility, including evenings, weekends, and holiday hours as needed.
