Position Overview:

The Licensed Veterinary Technician plays a crucial role in supporting the operations of the veterinary hospital by delivering high-quality care to our animal patients and exceptional service to their owners. Key responsibilities encompass assessing animal needs, performing examinations and diagnostic tests, assisting in surgical procedures, providing nursing care, and managing patient feeding and care routines. Additionally, the technician is responsible for maintaining medical supplies and equipment, overseeing patient triage and discharge processes, and ensuring accurate medical record-keeping.

Core Responsibilities:

Assess animal needs through examinations, interviews, and reviewing medical histories, including laboratory tests and imaging. Provide patient care by monitoring vital signs, collecting samples, administering medications, and managing wound care. Assist during examinations and surgical procedures by preparing necessary supplies and supporting the veterinarian as needed. Deliver comprehensive pet care utilizing knowledge of anatomy, physiology, disease processes, and pharmacology. Verify and manage medication supplies. Ensure patient comfort by providing food and water, maintaining cleanliness in patient areas, and observing for any clinical signs of illness. Fill prescriptions and document medication administration as per veterinary instructions. Uphold a safe and sanitary environment by sterilizing instruments, disinfecting areas, and managing sterile supplies according to legal regulations. Maintain accurate medical records by documenting patient conditions and updating databases promptly. Communicate effectively with pet owners regarding patient status under the veterinarian's guidance. Ensure equipment is well-maintained by following operational protocols and performing routine checks. Manage inventory by ordering necessary supplies and maintaining accurate records. Enhance professional knowledge through ongoing education and review of veterinary literature. Prepare pets for release to their owners, ensuring they are clean and well-groomed. Follow oral and written instructions diligently. Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Additional Responsibilities:

Depending on the specialty area, additional responsibilities may include:

Dentistry

Conduct dental cleanings and assist with oral surgeries. Perform nerve blocks as required.

Dermatology

Administer medications and perform skin assessments. Assist with ear cleanings and minor procedures.

Emergency Care

Support veterinarians in emergency situations and critical care. Monitor vital signs and assist with various emergency procedures.

Imaging

Aid in diagnostic imaging processes, including radiography and ultrasound.

Internal Medicine

Conduct research on wellness and preventative care for patients.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum of two years of experience in veterinary care, including surgeries and nursing for critical patients. Certification as a Veterinary Technician (CVT, LVT, RVT, or LVMT) preferred, or equivalent qualifications.

Skills and Knowledge:

Proficient in surgical preparation and monitoring, as well as basic nursing skills. Ability to perform catheter placements and phlebotomy procedures. Capable of managing patient care in a safe and professional manner. Flexibility to work varied schedules, including weekends and holidays. Physical capability to perform demanding tasks, including lifting and cleaning.
